A Message From The YPC...
The AHLA Young Professionals Council, would like to provide some important information to you about ways in which you can become more involved in AHLA. The Young Professionals Council has been working to develop new ways for young professionals to find opportunities within AHLA to get involved and to “be found” by AHLA leaders looking for assistance with projects.
There are a wealth of activities and opportunities at AHLA. If you want to be more involved, there is a place for you. For young professionals looking to become more involved, the following resources are available:
Young Professionals Discussion List - A discussion list for young professionals has been started. We are also encouraging AHLA Practice Group leaders to subscribe to this discussion list and post opportunities for young professionals. You can use the discussion list to seek out and to receive information about opportunities to volunteer.
Update your AHLA Attorney Profile - You can update your account on the AHLA website, however, you must first be logged in to do so. Once you are logged in, go to the home page, click on "Update Your Demographic Information," then click on the "Personal Profile" tab and complete the demographic information including birth year, law school, and practice areas where you are currently focusing your time. About half-way down the screen you will find an area especially for young professionals like yourself to designate your desired level of interest in participating in a variety of areas, including the Diversity Council, speaking, writing, Practice Groups, etc. This information in turn will be available to AHLA leaders looking for volunteers on particular projects. All they will have to do is contact us at yp@healthlawyers.org.
Contact the Vice Chair for Membership of a Practice Group - If you’re interested in knowing more about a particular Practice Group, each Practice Group has a Vice Chair of Membership who will be glad to talk with you about opportunities. For a list of PG leaders, click here. Even in the age of email, twitter, and facebook, a phone call can be the best way of making an initial contact. In our discussions with them, the AHLA Practice Group leaders have been excited about the prospect of finding new members to help with their projects and to bring fresh perspectives on member outreach, activities, and technology issues. Getting involved in a Practice Group is a great way to broaden your knowledge base, make contacts within the industry, and grow as a professional.
If you would like to be more involved in AHLA, we encourage you to sign up for the Young Professionals discussion list, update your personal page, or contact the Vice Chair of Membership in your Practice Group(s).
