Member Types and Dues

The Basics of AHLA Membership

Join AHLA and become part of the largest non-profit educational professional association devoted to health law. More than 10,000 attorneys practicing at law firms, working in government, in-house counsel, solo practitioners, students, academicians, and health professionals have made a commitment to advance their professional development by becoming an AHLA member.

Membership in AHLA is individual rather than organizational and fully portable should you change employment. Members are billed annually for Association membership dues and Practice Group fees to coincide with the months that they join AHLA. Dues are not deductible as a charitable contribution, but may be deductible as an ordinary business expense. See your tax advisor. International, paralegal, and student members receive their benefits electronically, e.g., access the monthly magazine online.

New members now receive one free Practice Group enrollment when joining, as well as one free year of access to the Health Law Archive!

Additional Membership Add-Ons

Practice Groups - $50 each
Practice Groups (PGs) provide opportunities for members with similar interests in a particular legal area (or members with a particular interest in an industry segment) to stay current on legal developments and industry practices. AHLA has sixteen Groups from which to choose and there is a nominal fee when you enroll in the Practice Group ($50 each).  Starting in June 2011, new members now receive one complimentary Practice Group enrollment with membership for their first year.

Want more Practice Group content? When a member enrolls in at least four Practice Groups, he/she may pay an additional $75 and receive electronic access to all of the PG content, as well as qualify for discounts to PG-sponsored luncheons and webinars (“PG15” option). Since new members already receive one free PG, they need only enroll in three additional PGs and pay the $75 fee to gain access.

Health Law Archive
Using Google search technology, subscribers to the Health Law Archive are able to quickly and easily search a vast database of health law knowledge, searching more than 40,000 documents from AHLA. As the Association produces additional content, it too is added to the Archive and made available to member subscribers. New members automatically receive a complimentary one-year subscription to the Archive ($99 value).

Public Interest

Your voluntary, tax-deductible donation will help support the development, production, and dissemination of consumer-oriented resources that are provided to members and the public at no cost. Written acknowledgement of the donation is issued to the card holder/check issuer in January each year.
