AHLA's Public Information Series

AHLA's Public Information Series is a collection of guidebooks and other resources addressing important health law topics, including life-limiting conditions and emergency preparedness. These resources are free and allow the Association to share its expertise on topics that are of interest both to healthcare attorneys and the broader healthcare community, including health professionals, healthcare executives, public health agencies, pro bono attorneys and perhaps most importantly, the general public.

The Public Information Series is comprised of three groups: Emergency Preparedness; For the Consumer; and For the Healthcare Provider. All of our resources are available for free downloading. You can also request print copies by contacting Katherine Wone

Emergency Preparedness
This collection includes Emergency Preparedness Response and Recovery Checklist:  Beyond the Emergency Management Plan; Lessons Learned from the Gulf Coast Hurricanes; and Community Pan-Flu Preparedness: A Checklist of Key Legal Issues for Healthcare Providers. These guidebooks provide insightful analysis and solutions for the legal preparedness challenges faced by healthcare providers.

For the Consumer
The collection includes A Guide to Legal Issues in Life-Limiting Conditions; One-page Summaries to the Guide to Legal Issues in Life-Limiting Conditions; Loving Conversations: One Family's Story About the Importance of Advance Healthcare Planning; Medical Research: A Consumer's Guide for Participation; and Considerations for People with Disabilities and Their Families (Audio). This collection is a valuable resource for consumers as well as for healthcare attorneys seeking to advise their clients.

For the Healthcare Provider
AHLA’s Healthcare Provider Series offers resources for healthcare organizations, providers, healthcare executives and their counsel. In keeping with the Association’s public interest mission, these resources are available to you at no cost.

Awards and Recognition for the Public Information Series
AHLA is proud to have been named to the 2007 Associations Advance America Honor Roll for its Public Information Series. Associations Advance America is a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) & The Center for Association Leadership, Washington, DC. Now in its 17th year, the prestigious awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship, and community service.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently named AHLA’s Community Pan-Flu Preparedness: A Checklist of Key Legal Issues for Healthcare Providers as one of the top ten legal tools for emergency preparedness planning. The Checklist has been well-received by providers and was featured as a valuable new resource on a multitude of websites, listserves, and newsletters. The interest and recognition from these numerous organizations as well as individual providers reflects the demand for preparedness planning resources and the quality and comprehensive nature of our products.
