How AHLA's Public Interest Mission is Fulfilled
AHLA is dedicated to bettering the communities in which we work and reside. Our ongoing communication and health education efforts inform both the lay and healthcare communities in order to better understand health law issues and prepare for difficult situations, ultimately leading to better care and planning for patients and their communities.
AHLA fulfills this Public Interest commitment - giving back to the lay and healthcare communities - mainly through three types of activities:
- Public Information Series - AHLA's library of free reader- and user-friendly checklists, toolkits, guidebooks, and audio-visual resources educates community leaders, non-attorneys, primary caretakers, social workers, healthcare providers, emergency preparedness teams and family members on how best to prepare and/or respond to a an emergency and/or challenging health crisis or situation. - Public Interest Convener Sessions - Our nonpartisan expert panel convener sessions prvoide a neutral forum for the frank and candid exchange of views and analyses among invited experts on select healthcare policy issues that have a clear legal nexus. Timely and informative white papers often result from these convener sessions. These sessions also underscore the AHLA's intention to promote a better understanding of healthcare issues and to encourage constructive dialogue among all affected members of the industry, government, academia, and the lay community.
- Public Interest Webinars - One-hour webinars on health policy issues provide a convenient means through which anyone can receive a quick orientation to a major policy issue. Past webinars have covered emergency preparedness for hospitals and understanding the importance of medical advance directives.
